How to Start Hifz of the Quran for Kids: A Parent's Guide
Memorizing the Quran is a long and beautiful journey. A good start, a steady routine and a supportive home make it much easier for your child.
Make sure reading is strong first
Hifz is built on correct reading. A child should be able to read the Quran with Tajweed before starting. If not, begin with Noorani Qaida and Nazra.
Understand the daily routine
Most Hifz programmes use three parts: Sabaq (the new lesson), Sabqi (revision of the last few days) and Manzil (steady revision of older lessons). Revision is as important as new memorization.
Set small, realistic targets
Begin with a small daily portion that your child can learn well. A target that fits the child is better than a big target that is soon abandoned.
Keep a fixed time and quiet place
Early morning is often best, when the mind is fresh. Keep the time and place the same each day.
Support from home
Listen to your child recite, help with revision and keep the atmosphere calm and positive. Avoid comparing your child with others.
Use a tutor who checks daily
Regular classes keep the child accountable. A five-day plan suits many Hifz students; see our Hifz-ul-Quran online programme.
